In Acts 19:11, God did extraordinary miracles through Paul so that when handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were brought to the sick, their diseases left them. Aprons and handkerchiefs can be thought of as symbols of service. Based on this scripture, United Women in Faith from Schertz United Methodist Church sponsored the Once Upon an Apron Retreat with SUMC members and United Women in Faith guests from Northern Hills United Methodist Church and Oxford United Methodist Church in San Antonio.
This intergenerational mission project involved cutting fabric, sewing, and stuffing Pillow Pals for Interfaith Welcome Coalition in San Antonio and cutting and sewing Teen Totes for Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center in Seguin. Games such as Uno and Crazy 8 and stuffed animals were donated by participants for the, Teen Totes. When United Women in Faith tie our apron strings, we step out boldly to serve, advocate, and make a difference. We step out boldly & proclaim, “Here I am, Lord, as your servant to do God’s work in the world.”
